Circa 1961, this classic Rolex Explorer 1016 watch - sometimes referred to as 'Explorer 1' or Explorer I' - combines sport and dress features in a way that no other Rolex watch does. One of the coolest vintage watches of all time, made famous by the successful 1953 Everest expedition. The dial is easily readable, with large a luminous triangle at 12, numerals at 3, 6 and 9 and markers for the rest. Explorers feature 'Mercedes' style hands, like the Rolex Submariner.
This very original and lovely example was bought from its original owner and the case back is engraved with his name. I can easily get this polished out, but as it matches the name on the original receipt, personaly, I like it. I like its 'history'.
Complete with its original Rolex Guarantee, box, 'Explorer' card and the orginal sales receipt, this watch is a very collectable item that can be worn daily.
All the watches for sale here are from my private collection. Several London dealers can verify their authenticity - and mine.
