Item Description
The most complete early 16800 'Transitional' Submariner I have seen and includes original inner and outer boxes, all booklets, tags, original translation papers, Rolex anchor and punched Rolex Guarantee certificate. Circa 1982.
Vintage Rolex Submariners are not only popular, they are also attractive investments. They pay historical witness to the evolution of not only dive watches, but to the evolution of Rolex itself. All Rolex Submariners are special watches and this early 16800 (Transitional) 'Matte Dial' is very special.
The so-called 'Transitional' 16800 was introduced for a very short period, transcending the changes between the 1680 and the modern 16610. The 16800 introduced the caliber 3135 movement which included the quick-set date and a sapphire crystal and was now uprated from 660 feet to 1000 feet.
A complete early 16800 Rolex Submariner that is in beautiful condition. The rare 'Matte Dial' has the most beautiful patina - aging to a lovely cream/oyster colour and the case, crystal and bracelet are in excellent shape despite its years. You may find cheaper 16800s on Ebay (yeah, good luck with that) but I guarantee you won't find one as lovely as this. It has obviously been cherished and looked after very well.
The perfect investment that can be worn every day.
All the watches for sale here are from my private collection. Several London dealers can verify their authenticity - and mine.
