Item Description
Seventies 1680 Rolex Submariners with their 'matte' dials and tritrium markers are believed to be the coolest Submariners of all. This 3.9 million serial number example - circa 1973/1974 - includes original inner and outer boxes, booklets, translation papers, tags, 200m/660ft Anchor and Rolex Guarantee certificate.
Introduced at the 1954 Basel Fair. The Submariner was the first truly water resistant watch. Submariners instantly became the 'must have' diver's watch. Unsurprisingly, the 1955 Basel Fair saw Submariner clones and copies from other leading watch manufacturers, a trend which has remained unabated after some 50 odd years! - the Submariner remains the most copied watch in history (not to mention outright fakes - in fact, let's NOT mention them). Submariners have evolved over the years, with many interim model reference numbers, dial variations, and other aspects which make collecting them fun and interesting. Today, vintage Rolex Submariners are not only popular, they are also attractive investments and pay historical witness to the evolution of Rolex itself. All Rolex Submariners are special watches and this 1680 'White Dial' is a superb example of the model.
Bearing a 3.9 million serial number this 'White' 1680 Submariner is in superb condition. The dial has wonderful patina and the case, 'plastic' glass and bracelet are super sharp. You may find cheaper 1680s on Ebay (yeah, good luck with that) but you would struggle to find one as lovely and as complete as this.
The perfect investment that can be worn every day.
All the watches for sale here are from my private collection. Several London dealers can verify their authenticity - and mine. |
